Dirt on Delight
Curated by Ingrid Schaffner and Jenelle Porter

Presenting the work of approximately twenty-five artists creating significant work using clay, the objects in "Dirt on Delight" will range from modestly scaled pots to installation pieces. Collectively, they suggest clay's appeal as a material to some basic impulses, starting with the delight that comes with building form coupled with the anxiety of completion. They also represent a full spectrum of cultural delineations - fine arts, crafts, outsider practices- to coalesce around the concept of craft itself. Artists include Kathy Butterly, Nicole Cherubini, Luccio Fontana, George Ohr, Ken Price, Sterling Ruby, Betty Woodman.

The exhibition will premiere at ICA, with an opening reception the evening of Thursday, January 15, 2009, and then travel to the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis: July 11 - November 15, 2009.

"Just What Is It That Makes Today's Homes So Different, So Appealing?"
Beverly Semmes in collaboration with Ingrid Schaffner

Beverly Semmes and Ingrid Schaffner's collaborative project for Testsite - takes its title and inspiration from a 1956 collage created by Richard Hamilton. Interested in both investigating and disrupting the expectations surrounding Testsite's domestic space, Schaffner and Semmes have chosen to present 17 photo-collages by Semmes along with the props she used to create these works. The resulting installation-itself a kind of collage-playfully blends the fantastic and the real.
